Step 1: START THE STOCK

Place chicken in a large pot. Cover with 1.5 litres of water. Bring to a boil. Skim foam. Add Grace Cock Soup Mix sachets, scallions and thyme. Reduce to a strong simmer.

Step 2: ADD VEGETABLES

After 30 minutes of simmering, add sliced carrots, cubed cho cho and cubed potatoes and Grace Whole Kernel Canned Corn. Add whole scotch bonnet. Continue simmering vigorously.

Step 3: MAKE SPINNERS

Mix flour with cold water to form a stiff dough. Roll small pieces between wet palms into thin finger shapes. Drop into the simmering soup.

Step 4: SIMMER UNTIL TENDER

Cook a further 20–25 minutes until spinners are cooked through and vegetables are completely tender. The broth should be golden and rich.

Step 5: ADJUST AND SERVE

Remove scotch bonnet. Taste and adjust seasoning — Grace Cock Soup Mix is well-seasoned. Ladle into deep bowls, ensuring each serving has chicken, vegetables and spinners.

Serving instructions

Grace Cock Soup Mix is the key to authentic Jamaican chicken soup — its unique spice blend is irreplaceable. Bone-in chicken gives richer stock. Spinners (thin, elongated dumplings) are traditional — not round ball dumplings.
